Happy Is Life

“Happy is Life” is a documentary, filmed in Venice Beach from 2002-2016 chronicling a father, Happy Ivy and his daughter living without a home.

Happy has raised his daughter Life Ivy the way he wanted, free and wild, yet Life remains grounded somehow. Happy's desire to live without constraints means his family barely has enough to eat, or only a bus to sleep in.

Happy and his family spend most of their time at Venice Beach—a place also struggling with the dichotomy between freedom and being a slave to freedom. Life is now in her early twenties, taking care of her aging father. “Happy is Life” brings a free-spirited and unconventional portrait of family life within a vibrant Venice Beach community.
